Review in Zentralblatt MATH

The book treats the investigation of stability boundaries in great detail. After a basic introduction into the stability theory for linear autonomous systems it closely investigates the behaviour of simple and multiple eigenvalues of linear systems. In the following chapters it also treats special cases like Hamiltonian systems, vibrations of conservative systems, periodic systems and parametric excitations. All chapters contain worked out examples with mechanical systems. This book is highly recommended for researchers involved in the stability investigation of physical systems, because it explains the theory from the basic facts up to a sophisticated level.
